There is a strong musical tradition in Wylde Green United Reformed Church (WGURC) and there has been a church choir since 1900. WGURC has both an adult (mixed voice) and a junior choir, who lead the congregation in the singing of hymns during the Sunday services. We also sing an introit and an anthem at each service. Although we are affiliated to the RSCM and strive to maintain a high choral standard, previous singing experience is not necessary to join. The choirs also sing in recitals and concerts for special events and sing traditional carols by candlelight on the Sunday before Christmas. Some of the congregation join the choir for this event and it can be a good ‘taster’ for those considering joining the choir on a regular basis. The choirs have sung evensong in a number of cathedrals over the past 30 years, including Coventry, Birmingham, Lichfield, Hereford, Ely, Worcester, Peterborough and Lincoln. We will be singing at Gloucester Cathedral in 2010. We have also broadcast live from our church on the BBC Sunday Morning Worship programme on Radio 4.
